All 13 state agencies certified

The state of Sonora announced today that it is the first state in the Republic of Mexico to have all its administrative offices certified in the competence of governmental transparency.

Certification process

The certification process was similar to that of a company being evaluated by a competent authority for a quality standard, such as an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) related to training.

In this case, a “certifying authority” evaluated all 13 agencies and their 22 employees within the state administration to determine compliance with an established government standard for public access to information, government transparency and the protection of personal data.

The certifying authority was the State Institute of Transparency, Access to Public Information and Protection of Personal Data of Yucatan (Inaip Yucatan). And the standard is EC0909, Provision of Information Held by the Obligated Subject.

According to their website, Inaip Yucatan is an autonomous public body that guarantees the right of access to public information (DAI) and the right to the protection of personal data.

Stressing the importance of transparency

During the announcement of the accomplishment, Sonora Governor Claudia Pavlovich stressed the importance of a government administration having a method of transparency measurement. Especially when it comes to government officials responding to citizens’ requests about the work of public servants.

Governor Pavlovich mentioned improved transparency as a main goal of her administration this year. And this is an accomplishment toward that goal.
