Plan Sonora Positions State Among Mexico’s Leading Exporters
The Plan Sonora for Sustainable Energy is helping place Sonora among Mexico’s leading exporting states, according to Governor Alfonso Durazo, who said the state ranked eighth nationally in exports during the third quarter of 2025.
Based on data from Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Sonora recorded $6.66 billion USD in exports, representing 4.4% of the national total. State officials described the performance as evidence of Sonora’s growing role as a driver of Mexico’s foreign trade.
Durazo highlighted growth in several strategic sectors, including mining, which increased 9.5%, chemical manufacturing, which rose 15%, and electrical equipment manufacturing and power generation, which grew 14.26%. These industries are central to Sonora’s long-term development and energy transition goals.
The transportation equipment manufacturing subsector led exports with $2.31 billion USD, reinforcing Sonora’s position in the automotive and advanced mobility industries. This was followed by computer, communications, and electronic components manufacturing with $993.7 million USD, and metallic and non-metallic mining with $796.1 million USD.
