Ford Motor Company has announced that its North American assembly plants will resume operations on a phased-in basis beginning on Monday, May 18.
This includes factories in Cuautitlán, Mexico and Hermosillo, Sonora, which will open with two production shifts instead of three.
The company had previously announced the re-opening of the Hermosillo facility on April 6, but that date was moved back to coordinate with affected states’ plans for the phased re-opening of their economies.
Supply chain re-activation
Ford aftermarket parts distribution centers and production parts depots will re-open a week before production resumes, on May 11, in order to re-establish the supply chains for replacement parts and the Ford production lines.
Increased safety and prevention measures
The manufacturing operations will open with new safety practices resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, documented in their Manufacturing Return to Work Playbook
New requirements include daily health checks, mandatory use of face coverings and increased time between shifts to allow for cleaning and minimize contact between employees.
