International supply chain issues
The coronavirus, which started last year in Wuhan City, China and has spread throughout the world, is causing global supply chain issues. And Sonora, Mexico is not immune from that problem.
In an interview with El Imparcial yesterday, Gerardo Vázquez Falcón commented that Sonoran maquila manufacturers are among the businesses most affected by the coronavirus in Mexico.
Vázquez Falcón, who is the president of the National Council of the Maquiladora and Export Industry in Sonora, cited production delays due to the lack of materials from their supply chains that start in China.
He also mentioned that manufacturers had tried to have high inventories of components to offset a supply disruption, and he did not have specific data with respect to the extent of the coronavirus impact on Sonoran industry.
