Freezing temps cause partial to complete damage
The newspaper El Imparcial reported this morning that producers, irrigation districts and Sonora’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Hydraulic Resources, Fisheries (SAGARHPA) have reported that 30,000 acres (12,000 hectares) were damaged by cold weather in Southern Sonora.
Areas affected were agricultural regions in the municipality of Guaymas, the Valley of the Yaqui and the Valley of the Mayo.
Corn was the main crop affected by the cold temperatures, but fields of potatoes, chilis, squash and watermelons were also affected.
More cold weather coming
Today, cold front number 39 is expected to bring temperatures near freezing with wind gusts up to 45 mph as it passes through Sonora.
