Sonora Strengthens Its Position as an Asparagus Export Powerhouse
Sonora is reinforcing its role as a leading agricultural export region with the launch of the 2025-2026 asparagus harvest in Caborca, the heart of Mexico’s asparagus industry. Supported by more than 45,000 agricultural workers, the sector continues to drive regional employment and economic stability.
At the same time, new investments in infrastructure, education, and social programs across northwestern municipalities signal a broader strategy linking agricultural productivity with long-term regional development.
The harvest launch highlights the work of more than 45,000 agricultural laborers from across Mexico, whose efforts sustain one of Sonora’s most important export industries and help maintain the region’s competitiveness in global markets.
Caborca remains the epicenter of asparagus production in Mexico and a key economic engine for northwestern Sonora, generating employment, stability, and opportunity for thousands of families during the export season.
Local producers emphasize the importance of coordination between government and the agricultural sector in sustaining growth, productivity, and long-term competitiveness.
Regional Development Tour
Alongside the harvest launch, state leadership conducted a regional tour of northwestern municipalities, including Oquitoa, Átil, Tubutama, and Sáric, focused on strengthening infrastructure, education, and social support.
Key initiatives included investment in hydro-agricultural infrastructure, delivery of scholarships and school support packages, expanded social services, and the announcement of a new extension campus of the Technological University of Hermosillo in nearby Altar, supported by a 10 million peso investment.
Together, these efforts reflect a broader strategy linking agricultural productivity with workforce development, education, and community wellbeing to reinforce Sonora’s position not only as a production hub, but as an integrated regional economy.
